Cleansers FAQ

Facial Cleansing: FAQ

I have sensitive skin. How do I cleanse without damaging the skin?

First, choose a mild cleanser, preferably a liquid cleanser. Lightly rub over the skin. When cleansing the face, gently go over the area to loosen the cosmetics and rinse the area thoroughly. As you have sensitive skin, it is very important to remove any cosmetic remnants and cleanser ingredients thoroughly, as these can be irritating to your skin if left on for too long.

How often should I cleanse?

It depends on your skin. Every individual is different. Generally, once or twice a day should suffice in keeping your skin clean, while not drying out your skin from overexposure. If you notice that your skin is getting irritated or dry, your dermatologist can help you figure out the product that you need.

Cleansing makes my skin dry up and painful. What can I do?

Unfortunately any kind of cleansing or washing does change the pH balance on your skin, and can potentially upset your skin, especially if you have dry or sensitive skin. The first advice is to use mild cleansers. If you have very dry or sensitive skin, visit a dermatologist and have them recommend you a product. Limit the frequency of cleansing, and moisturize immediately after cleansing to protect your skin.

What is the ideal cleanser?

This depends on many factors. The main consideration is your skin type. If you have dry or sensitive skin, choose a cleanser that does not irritate or dry out the skin. If you have prone skin, you will need a powerful cleanser that removes the excess fat away from the skin. If you have acne, you may wish specialized acne cleansers to clear the acne.
